Hospitals Transformation Programme
Vital plans to transform acute hospital services have moved a step forward and are expected to improve health and care outcomes for communities across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.
This follows confirmation of the approval of the Outline Business Case (OBC) for the Hospitals Transformation Programme in December 2023 by DHSC and NHSE’s Joint Investment Committee (JIC) and DHSC Ministers. Final approval for this business case was granted by HM Treasury on 19th December 2023.
The OBC progresses plans for the reconfiguration of acute services agreed as part of the Future Fit public consultation. The plans will see the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford specialise in planned care, leading to fewer cancellations and delays for operations and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital specialise in emergency care, meaning that patients will be seen more quickly, with shorter stays and faster ambulance handover times. The Hospitals Transformation Programme is a key part of our overarching plans to transform health and care services across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. The plans have been designed, led and supported by our clinicians.
